Currently, the Foundation believes this individual to be a lieutenant colonel Cheguillaume, representative of the French Mission Militaire pour les Affaires Allemandes (French Military Mission for German Affairs) in Germany. He was very involved in inter-zonal negotiations regarding the shipment of French-owned works of art from Germany to France, including personal meetings with Monuments Men Lt. Col. Mason Hammond and Capt. Calvin Hathaway in Berlin. Cheguillaume also represented France during meetings of the Cultural Works Committee of the Allied Control Authority, Restitutions, Deliveries and Restitution Directorate.
